Accessing Public Services in Scotland

A problem-solving toolkit

Scots law provides powerful rights for disabled children to education and support from other services, but sometimes this alone is not enough.

If you are facing difficulties with official bodies in accessing the health, social care and education support services you and your child are entitled to, our Accessing Public Services Toolkit can help. It identifies common issues and offers strategies to help resolve them without resorting to legal action.

Workshops

We run a series of free workshops for parents, carers and professionals.  The workshops use the information and resources in our Accessing Public Services Toolkit to help parents and carers, and the professionals who support them, to access the services that their children need.

They will be delivered by one of our Scottish parent/carers who have had first hand experience of dealing with public bodies for their child.

Each workshop lasts for around 3-4 hours and includes a presentation on the toolkit and case studies for group work. There will also be the opportunity to discuss and share experiences.

We are currently looking for groups to host our Accessing Public Services Toolkit workshops. All we ask is that the group cover the hire of a venue (preferably with an overhead projector and wifi access), refreshments, publicity and bookings.

If you are interested in holding a workshop, then please contact Beverley Hitchcock at [email protected].
